Understanding Influenza and Why You Need to Get Vaccinated Every Year

[Understanding Influenza and Why You Need to Get Vaccinated Every Year]🤔

– Influenza is not just a common cold. It is most prevalent from January to March/April and July to August each year. The virus spreads through droplets and can cause fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and extreme fatigue.

– High-risk individuals (the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and those with weakened immune systems) are more prone to complications such as bronchitis, pneumonia, and encephalopathy if they contract the flu, which can be fatal in severe cases.

– Getting a seasonal flu vaccine can effectively reduce the risk and complications.

– Reasons for getting vaccinated every year:

a. Antibody protection declines over time;

b. The circulating virus strain changes, and the vaccine composition is updated annually.

– Optimal timing: Get vaccinated at least two weeks before flu season for optimal protection.
